How to use the Arithmetic Sequence Calculator

Number the first entered term as term one. A negative difference gives a decreasing sequence; a zero difference gives a constant sequence.

The calculation

an = a1 + (n−1)d; Sn = n(a1+an)/2

Worked example

Starting at 2 with difference 3, the fifth term is 14 and the sum of the first five terms is 40.

Assumptions and limits

Uses finite floating-point arithmetic and supports up to one million terms by formula. It does not check whether an observed data series truly follows the model.
