How to use the General Triangle SSS SAS ASA Calculator

Solve a general triangle from three supported non-ambiguous sets of measurements. In SAS the third entry is the included angle C in degrees; in ASA the first entry is side a and the other two are angles B and C.

The calculation

SSS uses Heron’s formula; SAS uses the cosine rule; ASA uses the sine rule

Worked example

Sides 3,4,5 form a triangle of area 6 with angles approximately 36.8699°, 53.1301° and 90°.

Assumptions and limits

All side lengths must use the same unit. Degenerate triangles are rejected. Ambiguous SSA and arbitrary mixed known-value solving are not implemented.
