How to use the Pearson Correlation Calculator

Enter matched pairs without rearranging either series separately. The output measures the direction and strength of linear association, while the existing regression tool estimates a fitted prediction line.

The calculation

r = Σ[(x−x̄)(y−ȳ)] / √[Σ(x−x̄)² Σ(y−ȳ)²]

Worked example

Pairs (1,2), (2,4) and (3,6) have Pearson correlation +1.

Assumptions and limits

At least two pairs and nonzero variability in both variables are required. Correlation does not establish causation or summarize all nonlinear relationships.
