How to use the Midrank Percentile Rank Calculator

Use the reference sample and the target on the same scale. This is a rank convention, not interpolation of a percentile value or a distribution-based probability.

The calculation

Percentile rank = [count below + ½ count equal] / total count × 100

Worked example

For 10,20,20,30, a target of 20 has midrank percentile 50%.

Assumptions and limits

Other rank definitions handle ties differently. The tool does not claim this sample represents a population or apply survey weights.
