How to use the Cash Runway Calculator
Use cash receipts and payments rather than accounting profit. Include recurring amounts for the same month-length convention. The fractional-month output describes a steady-flow scenario and does not predict the exact date a bank balance reaches zero.
The calculation
Worked example
$120,000 cash and $15,000 net monthly outflow give eight months of runway.
Assumptions and limits
Seasonality, one-time commitments, financing and timing within a month are omitted. With zero or negative net outflow, the model reports that cash is not depleting rather than claiming unlimited business viability.
Common questions
Does a profitable business always have positive cash flow?
No. Inventory, receivables and payment timing can separate accounting profit from cash availability.
Is this an insolvency forecast?
No. It is a constant-flow planning estimate based on the cash and flows entered.
