How to use the Recurring Revenue Retention Calculator

Follow the customers present at the beginning of one reporting period. Exclude revenue from newly acquired customers and keep the revenue basis and period consistent.

The calculation

NRR = (start − churn − downgrades + expansion)/start × 100; GRR excludes expansion

Worked example

A $10,000 cohort losing $1,000 to churn and $500 to downgrades but gaining $2,000 in expansion has 105% NRR and 85% GRR.

Assumptions and limits

This is a cohort reconciliation, not a forecast. Churn and downgrade losses cannot together exceed the starting cohort revenue; expansion is separate.
