How to use the Entered-Limit Home Affordability Calculator

Explore a price supported by a debt-payment limit you choose. Monthly ownership costs are deducted before converting the remaining payment into a fixed-rate loan balance.

The calculation

Housing payment room = income×DTI limit−other debt−ownership costs; price = supported loan/(1−down%)

Worked example

$6,000 monthly income and a 36% entered debt limit leave $1,260 for loan principal and interest after $500 other debt and $400 ownership costs.

Assumptions and limits

This is not lender approval, a recommended debt limit or a rent recommendation. Credit, reserves, deposit affordability, variable taxes and mortgage insurance are not assessed.
