How to use the Investment Calculator

Use this tool to separate the money you contribute from the growth produced by your assumed rate. Set a monthly contribution, a period measured in months and a deposit timing. The ending balance combines compound growth on the initial amount with growth on a regular series of deposits. Changing the assumption is a way to compare scenarios, not to identify a likely market outcome.

The calculation

Future value = initial × (1+r)^n + deposit × [(1+r)^n − 1]/r; r = annual rate/12

Worked example

With a $1,000 starting balance, $100 deposited monthly for 12 months and a 0% return, the ending balance is $2,200. At a positive return assumption, deposits made at month start have longer to grow.

Assumptions and limits

The return is held constant and compounded monthly. Real investments may gain or lose value and do not normally earn an even amount each month. This simplified tool accepts non-negative growth assumptions and contributions; withdrawals, taxes, management fees and inflation are excluded. A zero-month period returns only the initial balance.

Common questions

How is this different from Compound Interest Calculator?

This calculator adds regular contributions. Compound Interest Calculator isolates growth on a single starting balance.

Can I interpret this as an investment guarantee?

No. It is the mathematical result of your assumptions. Actual returns, costs and taxes can differ substantially.
