How to use the Inflation-Adjusted Return Calculator

Match the investment period and inflation period. Convert both percentages to growth factors before dividing; simply subtracting the percentages is only an approximation.

The calculation

Real return = [(1+nominal)/(1+inflation) − 1] × 100

Worked example

An 8% nominal return and 3% inflation give about 4.8544% real return.

Assumptions and limits

User-supplied rates only. No price index, currency conversion, tax treatment or future return is fetched or predicted.
