How to use the Monthly vs Annual Subscription Calculator

Enter prices for plans with comparable features and your actual access horizon. An annual plan is modeled as a complete purchase for each started 12-month block, so short use can change which option costs less.

The calculation

Monthly total = monthly price × months; annual total = annual price × ceil(months/12)

Worked example

For 18 months at $15/month versus $120/year, monthly spending is $270 and two full annual purchases total $240.

Assumptions and limits

No refund, proration, promotional renewal price or time-value discount is assumed. Feature differences and cancellation policies need to be compared separately.

Common questions

Why are two annual fees counted at month 13?

The model requires a second complete annual purchase to maintain access past the first 12 months.

Is the cheapest plan always the best option?

No. Flexibility, features and cancellation rules are outside the arithmetic.
