How to use the Drilling Feed Time Calculator

Use the total axial travel that is actually performed at the stated steady cutting feed. The allowance is added once to the hole depth.

The calculation

Minutes = (depth + allowance)/(rpm × feed per revolution)

Worked example

30 mm depth plus 5 mm allowance at 1,000 rpm and 0.1 mm/rev takes 0.35 minutes, or 21 seconds.

Assumptions and limits

Excludes peck cycles, retractions, acceleration, tool changes and positioning. It does not select cutting settings or establish safe drilling conditions.
