How to use the Tile Grout Quantity Calculator

The tile area excludes joints while the stated tiled area includes the repeating grid. Depth is the actual grout-filled depth, not automatically the full tile thickness.

The calculation

Joint fraction = 1 − tile area / [(length+joint)(width+joint)]; liters = area × depth_mm × joint fraction

Worked example

Ten m² of 300×300 mm tiles with 3 mm joints, 5 mm depth, 1.6 kg/L density and 10% extra need about 1.734 kg.

Assumptions and limits

Ideal flat grid estimate. Edge joints, spacers, surface texture and product coverage vary; use the product’s density or coverage information rather than treating the example density as universal.
