How to use the Mulch Bag Quantity Calculator

Use the horizontal bed area and desired uniform depth. The bag input is a volume, not a weight; different materials cannot be converted from kilograms without density.

The calculation

Liters = area_m² × depth_mm × (1+extra/100); bags = ceil(liters / bag liters)

Worked example

20 m² at 50 mm depth with 10% extra requires 1,100 liters, or 22 bags of 50 liters.

Assumptions and limits

Assumes uniform coverage. Settling, irregular slopes and material compaction vary; extra allowance is supplied by you rather than prescribed for every material.
