How to use the Straight Fence Post Count Calculator

Enter the run between its two end posts. The calculated actual spacing distributes the spans evenly without exceeding your maximum.

The calculation

Spans = ceil(length/maximum spacing); posts = spans + 1

Worked example

A 20 m straight run with maximum 2.5 m spacing needs eight spans and nine posts.

Assumptions and limits

One straight run only. Shared corner posts, gates, terrain, foundations and local construction rules are not modeled; the tool does not select a safe spacing.
