How to use the Screen Pixel Density Calculator

Measure the active display diagonal, excluding the bezel. The calculator uses the pixel-grid aspect ratio to infer approximate physical width and height and reports the corresponding pixel pitch.

The calculation

PPI = √(horizontal pixels² + vertical pixels²) / diagonal inches

Worked example

A 1,920 × 1,080 display with a 24-inch active diagonal has about 91.7878 pixels per inch.

Assumptions and limits

Assumes square pixels and the stated active resolution. Software scaling, virtual display dimensions and non-square-pixel formats do not change the physical-density formula.

Common questions

Does 150% interface scaling change PPI?

No. It changes interface sizing, not physical pixels per inch.

Can I use the device diagonal including the frame?

Use the active display area; including the frame would underestimate density.
