How to use the Paint Quantity Calculator

Enter the area you intend to paint after subtracting openings you do not want included. Read the paint’s stated coverage in square meters per liter for a single coat. Additional coats multiply the covered area, while the allowance accounts for a planning margin. The result is a liquid quantity to be rounded up to the available container sizes.

The calculation

Liters = net area × coats / coverage × (1+allowance)

Worked example

Painting 50 m² with two coats at 10 m² per liter requires 10 liters before allowance. Adding 10% gives 11 liters.

Assumptions and limits

Actual coverage depends on substrate, porosity, color change, texture and application method. Primers, separate ceiling areas and different products should be calculated individually. The calculator does not choose a coating system or guarantee a product’s yield. A labeled coverage range should be interpreted in light of the manufacturer’s instructions and your surface.

Common questions

Should I include windows and doors?

Enter net paintable area. Subtract openings if you want them excluded from the estimate.

Does this include primer?

No. Calculate primer separately using its own coverage rate and the area it needs to cover.
