How to use the 3D Filament Mass Calculator

Use the actual material density and nominal filament diameter. One square millimeter times one meter equals one cubic centimeter, giving the convenient formula shown.

The calculation

Mass_g = π(diameter_mm/2)² × length_m × density_g/cm³

Worked example

100 m of 1.75 mm filament at 1.24 g/cm³ has ideal mass about 298.255 g.

Assumptions and limits

Assumes a solid uniform cylinder. Diameter tolerance, moisture, voids and spool weight are excluded; example density is not universal for all plastics.
