How to use the Gravel Volume and Mass Calculator

Estimate a rectangular gravel layer using a bulk density supplied for the intended material and moisture condition. The allowance increases both volume and mass.

The calculation

Volume_m³ = length×width×depth_mm/1000×(1+extra); mass_kg = volume×bulk density

Worked example

5×4 m at 100 mm depth with 10% extra requires 2.2 m³; at 1,600 kg/m³, estimated mass is 3,520 kg.

Assumptions and limits

No material lookup, compaction factor or supplier coverage guarantee. Slopes and irregular shapes need area estimates appropriate to the task.
