How to use the Torque and Rotational Power Calculator

Convert steady shaft torque and rotational speed into mechanical power. The horsepower convention is imperial mechanical hp, with metric PS shown separately.

The calculation

Power_W = torque×2π×rpm/60; mechanical hp = watts/745.699871582

Worked example

100 N·m at 3,000 rpm corresponds to about 31.4159 kW and 42.1295 mechanical horsepower.

Assumptions and limits

No engine measurement, driveline loss, wheel output or acceleration model. Nameplate peak torque and peak rpm should not be combined unless they occur at the same operating point.
