How to use the Aspect Ratio Crop Calculator
Use source pixel dimensions and a positive target aspect ratio. The centered crop retains the largest rectangle of the requested ratio without extending beyond the source.
The calculation
Worked example
Cropping 6,000 × 4,000 pixels to 16:9 keeps the width and uses 3,375 pixels of height, removing 312.5 ideal pixels from each vertical side.
Assumptions and limits
No image is uploaded, analyzed or edited. Fractional ideal pixel boundaries require an integer choice in your editor. A centered crop may remove important subjects; composition is not assessed.
Common questions
Does this stretch the image?
No. It estimates cropping, which removes source area while retaining its pixel scale.
Why can the crop dimensions be fractional?
The ideal geometric ratio may not align with whole-pixel boundaries. Editors must round or adjust the crop.
