How to use the Weighted Grade Calculator
Enter each score and its percentage weight on a separate line. The headline normalizes the weights of the entered work, which is useful for understanding progress before every assessment is complete. A separate row shows how many percentage points this work contributes toward a full 100% course total. When the entered weights sum to 100%, the two interpretations coincide.
The calculation
Worked example
A 90% score worth 30% and an 80% score worth 70% combine to 83%. If the second item is not entered, the completed-work average is 90%, while its course contribution is 27 percentage points.
Assumptions and limits
Scores are limited to 0–100 and positive weights may total no more than 100%. Extra credit, dropped assessments, category nesting and school-specific grading rules are not applied. If weights total less than 100%, the headline is not a final course grade and unentered work is not assumed to receive any particular score.
Common questions
Why is a partial-work average different from its course contribution?
A partial average divides by the entered weights. The course contribution uses the full 100% denominator.
Can the weights exceed 100%?
No. This simple percentage-weight model rejects that input rather than assuming an extra-credit policy.
