How to use the Pipe Flow Velocity Calculator

Use internal diameter and actual volume flow for the operating condition. This is cross-sectional average velocity, not a detailed velocity profile.

The calculation

Velocity_m/s = (L/min ÷ 60,000) / [π(diameter_mm/1000)²/4]

Worked example

60 L/min through a 25 mm internal diameter pipe gives average velocity about 2.0372 m/s.

Assumptions and limits

Assumes a full circular pipe. Pressure drop, pump suitability, viscosity, compressibility and flow-regime checks are excluded.
