How to use the Tile Quantity Calculator

Measure the net surface to cover and enter the face dimensions of one tile. The allowance increases required coverage before the count is rounded up. Use a larger allowance when appropriate for your cutting pattern, damaged tiles or spares. The result counts individual tiles, so you must still convert it into the supplier’s box quantities.

The calculation

Tile count = ceil[area × (1+allowance) / (tile width × tile length / 10000)]

Worked example

A 20 m² surface with 30 × 30 cm tiles has 0.09 m² per tile. Including 10% extra coverage requires 245 whole tiles after rounding upward.

Assumptions and limits

This is an area-based estimate, not a layout optimization. Grout width, diagonal patterns, borders, obstacles and offcut reuse can change how many tiles are actually needed. It excludes adhesive, grout and substrate preparation. Positive surface and tile dimensions are required; verify nominal and actual product dimensions before purchasing.

Common questions

Does the count include boxes?

No. Divide by the number of tiles per box and round up again according to the product packaging.

Is 10% allowance always enough?

It is only an editable example. Layout complexity, tile size and spare requirements can justify a different allowance.
