How to use the Hydraulic Cylinder Force Calculator

Assume the inactive side has zero gauge pressure. Bore diameter defines full piston area while the rod subtracts area from the retraction side.

The calculation

Extension = pressure × π bore²/4; retraction uses π(bore²−rod²)/4, with bar-to-N/mm² factor 0.1

Worked example

100 bar and 50 mm bore give about 19,634.9541 N extension force; a 20 mm rod lowers the ideal retraction force.

Assumptions and limits

Requires rod diameter smaller than bore. Friction, backpressure, buckling, leakage and rated component limits are excluded; this is ideal force arithmetic.
